Porcupine and Picasso swiming together?

Today I p/u my porc. puffer and in it went into my DT. Once my trigger saw the puffer it proceeded to nip at it. It nipped the puffer twice then went to its hiding spot. After about 20mins the puffer decided to swim around the tank and do some exploring, which in turn made the trigger out get as well. Whever the two meet up they stop, look at each other, do a half turn, and turn their bodies up towards the top of the tank and kinda rub bellies.. Does anyone have any idea what they are doing??

The puffer has absolutely zero interest in my rad. lion though.

every now and then my clown and and maroon will swat each other with their tails while rolling over and under each other, i guess it could look like they are rubbing bellies. more like trying to shoo one away from the other though??

You never know how these 2 are gonna work out, but tbh the Trigger is the bigger danger to the Lion although a Puffer could aggravate him to death if he ends up being a fin nipper.
Hows the Lion feeding? I know they can be pretty tough to feed with the more aggressives going after everything.

All three are doing great as of today. I put the lion in first and had it for about 2 weeks before adding the trigger and puffer.
He eats very well, it comes right up to the top of the water when I get close to the tank expecting food. I do have to wiggle it and make it "swim" otherwise the lion will ignore the food or follow it around the tasnk either eating it or leaving it alone. I am feeding frozen krill, it especially likes the pieces with the eyes still on lol

Well thats part of the problem with Trigs, you never really know when they might flip and the Lion is the most susceptible to attack with no real defenses against them(Trig is too fast to get hit with the venom).
Make sure you vary up your diet. Krill as a primary diet source can lead to lockjaw in fish and puffers especially are susceptible to it.
Just wait till that Puffer gets more comfortable, if hes anything like mine he'll be going after any food within seconds of you sticking it in the water heh. Voracious and fearless eaters they are. My Puffer and Tusk even play tug of war with larger pieces(Tusk usually wins).

Thanks for the advice! My puffer is not eating as hardy as I would like, still a bit shy, hopefully that will change soon! My lion though will actually chase the trigger away if it gets too close..lol The lion is actually top fish right now.

This group of fish sounds like a natural. But, as they grow, Humas (and often puffers) find the flowing fins of lions irresistible. Lions end up being torn up more often than not with an aggressive trigger.

Yes, I am well aware of the risks as the puffer and trigger grow. I have owned other puffers before and know their they can be quite aggressive, and nips fins. I will just have to keep an eye on both the Puffer and trigger b/c the lion is staying in there!

Good plan; sometimes they do just fine. Many folks just don't realize the potential problems. Good luck with them!

Thanks, I will try that. A question, though. I feed krill, Bobs and what else would you suggest to feed a puffer. Doing well now, but afraid as you mentioned something about lockjaw from krill
thx

I tried squid but nothing in my tank likes it.
I had to give my trig back to the lfs due to aggression. I tried a clam and the trig went nuts over it!
