they do grow pretty quick. it will probably be at least 6" in a year. they will eat snails and shrimp when it gets olber so take that into consideration too. they are one of my favorite fish. i had one and it died from ich. my wife was in tears when it died. you can really get attatched to those little googly eyed guys. i wont get another one for that reason. its really hard to part with them when you get attatched, and ive seen them in the lfs over 15". so i know you really need a big tank to house them for the long run.

I love my pork, I have had him for a couple of months now and say that he has grown about 1.5 inches big, but mine is still a juvi, he likes to be pet and I would say these are very hardy fish.

I have a Pork, about 1 1/2 years old. He stopped eating about a month ago.
You mentioned snails. Please advise what kind and what else they eat.
I am devestated. He is getting smaller every day. I can' stand watching him starve.
Please please answer
Thank you:(

I had one and it ate everything. My clownfish included. They grow quite large. Mine was 6 inches and I had him a year and he grew 2 more inches plus really fat. I mostly fed him small feeders, brine shrimp gumdrops and bloodworms. for the brine shrimp, I know its not good to do but it didnt hurt him but made him gain weight was to put them in frozen. That way he would catch all them as they were defrosting. Otherwise they were filtered really fast. feeders work ok to fatten but remember that the feeders release alot of ammonia and is not really good for a small tank with inadaquate filtration. The fish was fun while I had him. He would eat feeders from my hand and spit water. I traded him at the pet store for a small naso later on.

Already said this yeaterday, the puffer will eat all your other fish.
About the puffer not eating, puffers teeth grow all the time, and if you dont give them anything hard to eat, their teeth will eventually grow so big that they can open their mouth, so that could be the problem why he cant eat. Try feeding him different types of shell fish.
Hope it eats soon!

Didnt ask the same question, and this was a post from a long time ago. In this post I am asking the status on everyone elses puffer.... Such as how EelfreakRobi puffer is, How mojo215 puffer is... I have heard a lot from people who have not ever had puffers, I want to hear from people who have had puffers with about the same set up as mine! Some people say its fine others dont! My LFS swears that a small puffer in my tank will do good! I just want to know others experinces! Good and Bad!

dont waste your time, they get too big for your tank. it may last for a while, but you'll be very attatched to it when it dies or you have to give it away. save yourself the greif.

Chris read what your first post says.....and what you follow up post says "can i get one of these from saltwaterfish.com" and then "i haven't gotten mine yet!".....you have posted numerous times in the past few days about porcupine puffers, and everytime you ask, everyone says that you don't have a large enough tank and that it will eat everything you have...also that you don't have enough filtration........Why wouldn't you take anyone seriously.......the advice given to you has been 100% correct.....no matter what you do that fish will outgrow your tank...nothing you can do to stop it...........
You don't have a large enough tank
Your current fish will get eaten
You don't have enough filtration
You should not get a porcupine puffer

I have 2 porqs in a 125 gal..they eat alot to say the least, which causes all kinds of waste..I have a huge skimmer,4-5in dsb and about 150 lbs of lr to help take care of the waste, you would lose just about everything in the tank due to the porq consumming it..then your tank will be empty and the porq will quickly outgrow that size tank..like folks have said this is one of the fishes that really get you hooked to it like a cat or dog or horse or whatever your favorite pet is, and losing it really bums us out...get a bigger tank 125 or larger,I know its alot but its a good goal to look foward to,for a good reason
