Puffers do this when in stress, bad water, using a net to move them and over active tankmates will caues this. I suggest turning the lights of for 24 hours and when you come back, you should have a new puffer full of life.

I lvoe those puffers ... they cute looking like a Gizmo. We actually named ours 'Follow finger' since he would follow your finger everywhere you moved it when you touched the tank
THius is probably one of the only fish we have ever named but they have such a personality they are like little doggies that like to beg for constant attention.

Heres some shots of my puffer George. I have been lucky to catch him puffed up twice now, in the 4 months I have had him.
I have not been very worried about it, as he is a very happy little guy and eats very well.
