Position of overflows in drilled tanks..

I think I might have read that an center offset overflow caused dead spots as far as current. Which would be better, overflow on the side or offset from center? This will be for a reef tank. What about PH on the "dead" side? Would that help with the current. I want to be able to keep anything without having to worry about flow. Thanks!!

The position of the overflow will have much less to do with the "current" than will the position of the returns. Personally I would prefer a centered overflow and if I ever establish a new reef thats what I'll use....either a center overflow or a pair of overflows one at either end. The returns are the primary source of current and that can be extremely flexiable no matter what the design of the overflow.
