Post pics of your canopy

A friend of mine is going to make me a canopy. I would like to see some pics to get some ideas. I don't want it to look like a box and i don't want it to look like a crown.
Also what i have is 4, 100watt VHo's and 2, 175watt MH going in this hood on a 90gal tank.
How high should it be above the tank? The lighting comes out to 8.3 watts per gallon.
Is it too much?
I plan on putting 2, 4" fans in it, one in, one out, should i have 2 in and 2 out?

MH should be 10-12 inches from water, as far as fans go I would place one in each end blowing in and across water , and 2 in back blowing in and across water. Then have vent holes on the top of the canopy. Fans blowing out will not last long, they will corrode very quickly. Hot air will rise and escape through vents on top of canopy.
Hope this helps.
P.S. I am not sure on "to much light" maybe someone else can answer that one.

Currently fighting an algae problem since i upgraded to this light setup 250W DE MH. Sorry ol tap water killing me, finally got an RO/DI now just time to correct my booboo. Hard to believe running PC that i never had a problem. now that im trying to get more reef ready i needed a hood.
BTW my tank is a 92Corner bow front so there really wasn't much available for me. stil need to finish painting the inside edges i was in a hurry to get it back on before i got all kinds of dog hair in the tank.

Ok, these pics are a little old (bout 3 1/2 minutes) First shows whole hood with 2 front door. Second shows 3 fans blowing out - two I installed third is just hole for PC fixture. There is also 2 fans blowing in on the other side. Third shows looking from top down....front 1/2 of hood opens...MH are attached to back 1/2. Last one is looking from the side into one of the front doors.
I have not installed my third MH yet...in the middle if you cant tell :joy:
My hubby laughs, his outriggers for the boat are the perfect height to hold the front doors open

heres some pics of my canopy on my tank i got it built like 2 months ago so i could my PC retro fit under it.... i have 400W under it..... its for a 100g tank.... doesnt exactly match the bottom now but it was close enough for the price.... has a dual top that you can open either side.... i have half the PC's on one side and the other has the rest... cost me $150 and does the job good.... its 12" from the water surface to the top of the lid to give more room for heat distribution.... i then cut 2 3" fan wholes on the side and put 2 clear computer fans one blowing in the other sucking the hot air out.... works good in my situation tank stays a constant 79 all day...

Mine hangs from the ceiling. It looks just like a box :D , But I dressed it up alittle.
The top has 3 boards running the length of the hood to keep it open and it lets all the heat out.

i know this looks like a box, but it blends in well enough and you can make it yourself for 60 bucks, including the heat shield and fan.

i actually have some 1/4" panels that cover up the back so no light/noise escapes. the idea of my contraption is to eliminate all the negatives of having a swt. so far the only setback is that new equipment is hard to fit in. when i built the stand i didnt design a skimmer or closed loop system into it. i made it work after weeks of DIYism. hope this helps

thanks norway....
ur closed loops system looks pretty good too.... i understand about the lack of space issue though.... under my stand its hard for me to fit the filters and all the other electrical things down there....

my canopy is made of obg press board..... makes it lightweight and i just wanted it to be black to more or less match the bottom of the stand.....

Thanks. I'm helping a guy with his new Corner Tank. It is made by Perfecto and has a black "plastic" and metal stand. But it doesn't come with a canopy. I was looking for something that was smooth and had a little sheen to it. I appreciate your info.

Yea my bottom stand has the slatted look so when I created the canopy for mine i mimic'd that, for someone who has never really built anything out of wood I think i did damn good.
