I love him...he is a great addition
however, I have been searching, and I only have 75lbs of LR, recommended is 100lbs....
I never can tell if people on here are just making generalizations, but it appears the odds are against me.
anyway, just a rant/concern because I like him so much.

I've had this one almost 3 years now. I bought him, a chocolate chip and a brittle star all at the same time. He's the only one left.
He's a great scavenger and for treats he loves shrimp pellets. I have a coral banded shrimp in with him and they get along just fine.

Here is my Serpent. He only had 4 legs when I got him. It's cool though because my tank is EDA compliant. (Echinoderms with Disabilites Act)

Sorry for the corny joke.....

IDK about that, but they almost always starve to death except in very large systems.

sho cool star havent seen one like that w/ four legs.. neat.. I ordered one red banded serpent star, and two "BRIGHT" red serpents today so I'll post pics when they arrive.. Hopefully they are as nice as they sound!
About the sand sifters they wont survive in a system smaller then probably 200 gallons.. I tried one in my 75 and it passed.. Dont do it. The only reef safe stars I've had sucess w/ are serpent stars.. or brittle

Nope. They do not eat it...they stir things up but if you have this problem, you will always have this problem. YOu'll need to address the source. Sand sifter stars tend to eat the desirable critters in a sand bed.

Not in theory, though probably for a time. The chocolate chip star is a definite risk to the anemone.

Just rememebr - with two Linkia you will need A LOT of LR. I would have suggested one or the other. Both eat the same thing, and it is not something you can provide. So wait until you have had them 18 months before being confident that you have been successful (or adding anything similar) - They show no obvious signs of problems, and many many many will die at about the year point of starvation
Pristine water conditions, mature packed reef tank and long acclimation is the basic story line for Linckia's. Beautiful animals, but this is their downfall in many tanks
