MAN I miss my SFE, I had him for over 6 yrs be4 he died, i was on vaction and my mom was watching the tanks and forgot to put the brick back on the top. He was @2.5 ft long and maybe 4 or 5 inches in diameter. He was only 10 inches when I got him. I have a 75 gal cycling that I might getanother SFE but not sure yet cause my wife wants a reef tank.
Have any of yall ever kept an eel with corals?
I have a sfe with coral and he never bothers anything. I do not even keep a top on the tank. I have had him take a ride thru the overflows a few times but he rarely comes out form under the rocks..

Oh that is a really cool one. What do those usually run?? How big do they get?
They get approx. 102cm in the wild. I do not have a lot of info. on it, as they are extremely rare in the aquarium trade. My lfs had it in a display tank for a few months. I have no idea on price other than what I got it for, since I have not been able to compare it to anything for sale online. It is a member of the snake eel family.

A little over three feet? That is not bad. What is their temperment? Are they super aggressive or have you been able to hand feed him?

It is very docile, it does not have any teeth that I can see, and has bad eyesight. When I feed I just try to get the food close to it so it can smell it. Plus I try not to stick my hands in the water with my lion and porc puffer nearby. lol It really likes silversides and will also eat frozen krill.
This is the only place where I have been able to find any useful info. on them, and there is not much there.

Its a 125g The 6 foot long type. Right have have a starfish, porc. puffer, and lion in there. The eel seems to always run into the puffer, and the puffer doesn't really care much about it.

Hamlet, my chain link eel.
Wish I had a better camera (or photography skills, my camera actually is pretty nice). Some of you guys have some beautiful closeups, but I like this picture of my eel even if it's a bit blurry.

Basd on my experience, I have a snowflake in my reef tank and have no issues, but I know ever eel has his own personality. Just make sure he is kept well feed, he even lets my fire shrimp clean him without any issues.
