Please post pictures of your refugium setups here. Also Post the Dimensions and whats in them. I am looking for some ideas on upgrading my fuge but like to see whats out there. Thanks
Here;' my fuge. A 29gal, drilled at the top. A pump feeds the UV to the left, then the UV drains into the fuge. 5" DSB in the fuge, 30lbs of rock, cheato, shrimp, crabs, snails, conchs. Have some crushed coral for pods breeding in there. Also a powerhead inside for circulation. The long horizontal PVC tube is the return drain.

what size tank do you have? what size sump do you think you're going with?
Eric B. My tank is roughly 250 Gallons. My current Fuge that the LFS charged me is 36(L)x16(h)x18(D). My calculations are about 45 Gallon Tank. I have 2 intakes and 2 returns. only has 2 chambers which is not good I think. The water rushes in and disturbes the mudd and it overflows into the return chamber when it pumps it back into my tank. The chambers on the inside of the fuge are only 9" high. So the water level never exceeds 12" on a regular fill so the volume inside the fuge is about 34 Gallons. What size fuge should I have for this size tank? and how many chambers are good? I am thinking at least 3..
Thanks

Aquaknight.. What size is your main tank? if your fuge is 29gal. Also what kind of power head you have inside the fuge flow rate? thanks
Main tank is a 125gal. Powerhead inside is a Rio 800. That's why I love a seperate/remote fuge. You can have lower flow rates. With 'inline fuges' before the return in a single sump system, flow through the fuge is way too high, over 600gph most of the time. The UV feed is about only 95gph.

Mr. Bean. what size is your main tank? and does a bubble trap really work? My fuge does not have a bubble trap just 1 9" spill over into the return chamber.
Also Are you using miracle mudd in your fuge? and what type of calurpa you gonna go with?
Thanks
My DT tank is 90 Gallons. Bubble traps work as long as theyre spaced out properly (for exposure time) in accordance with your return pumps GPH number. If they dont work off the bat you can add filer media bags between them and those blue mechanical filter blocks (cut down to fit inbetween the baffles of course). To supplement the bubble trap I am going to have my DT drain into a filter sock.
As for refugium contents Im using a deep sand bed and cheato. After alot of research, ive found that Cheato is much safer than caluerpa since it doesnt go sexual as easy. However from what ive read caluerpa is better for the deportation of nitrates since it grows so quickly. I'm just not into taking such a risk though which is why im sticking with cheato.

Check out this article on macroalgaes. It should help answer alot of your questions about the fuge. Hope it helps
yea its cheato...yea it seems pretty clean but the 15g sump is new..it use to be a 10g..but I had to make a larger sump to fit that skimmer I bought..thats probably why it still looks all minty fresh
Does anyone else use a product called MIRACLE MUDD? or is everyone using a sand bed in their fuges?? Just want to know cause when I get a new fuge I dont know what to use as a fuge bed?? Any pros or cons on this miracle mudd product??
