These guys are my absolute favorite fish! I just got a lil baby one last week. Here are some pics of Nomar himself.. For some reason my camera displays him in a light blue color instead of the dark blue color that he is.

Just happen to have one of them myself....added it several months ago and after a minor case of ick in the "Q" tank it is now doing fine. Beautiful fish in my opinion.

jamesurq...matter of fact it is a 55...and I'm not overly concerned about keeping the hippo in it for now. I should note that for one I am not a card carrying member of the "tang police"...also I'm not one to be careless about livestock additions(I knew full well what I was doing when I added the hippo)...my system volume on the 55 is actually about 150 gal plus and it is mature and very stable...Lastly I have plans in motion to convert the existing 55 display into either a 120 or possibly a 150 in the near future...so nope I don't have any concerns about keeping a hippo in "MY" system. I have seen situations where keeping a tang of any kind was not a good choice...but I'm confident that my situation is well under control. Did I mention that the yellow tang in my 58 gal fish only has been a great fish...happy and disease free ... for over 2 years now.:D
He's a beauty...and someday he too may find a larger home to roam...till then he is content where he is...and I'm confident that based on my personal experience...and the condition of my systems that both tangs will live long and carefree lives...

NM...that summs up my outlook on the tang subject as well. If you have enough years (under your preverberal belt) to know what your system can handle... (knowing weather your system can handle the tang in questions, needs or not) is what is the REAL deciding factor on weather a tang can or should be added to your system. IMO, alot of factors fall in play here, but as a general rule, tangs should not be housed in a tank smaller than 55g. Again, just my own personal opinion.

How is a 55 really like a 150 plus??? We are not talking about water quality but rather swimming space. A 55 will always be too little swimming space to keep a hippo happy and desease free for an extended period of time. I happen to believe that you can have a yellow, purple or PB in a 55g, but a hippo gets way too large. My 2 cents.

Lets not let this develope into a "flame fest"....the water volume of my 55 is over 150 gals...and rest assured I know the growth potential of my hippo...and before he ever has a chance to become cramped in my 55 I will have a new display in place that will more than accomodate him. He is now about 3"-4" and will be living in a much larger display by mid-summer....this was all considered prior to adding the hippo!

I have 2 small little fella's in my 90, around 2-3" each....they are very camera shy as they were added 2 days ago together...If i can get a decent shot I'll post one.

Couple of more pics for ya Magic. This one features Nomar - hippo tang, Joey D and Marilyn - clowns and Sexson - FireFish, and one big scarlet hermit, but u can only see his shell... Let me know what the wife decides about the hippo, hehe...

Last one I promise.. I love this guy so much I have an endless amount of pics of him. For some reason Nomar loves trying to push the limits of how tight of a squeeze he can make it through the crevices. This is one of him squeezing into his favorite spot. In my opinion you gotta get one of these guys! Mine is a gag. He also loves picking up little shells and swimming to the top then letting them drop and float to the bottom. I'll try and get a pick of him doing it..
