I don't know how cyanide could get into my aquarium, do you have any idea Innsmouth?
Many collectors of exotic species of fish and inverts use cyanide to weaken fish for easy collection. They may seem fine for awhile and some may live and do well while others flounder and die. Sad thing is, it's impossible to tell if that's the case when an animal dies.

I remember seeing that pic on another forum for just mantis shrimps. Reefcentral I'm pretty sure. I can't get over 19$ for a Peacock.... I usually see them for 50$ and over. About how large is that Peacock BeachBum?
The one LFS I went to was selling a mantis for 32$ and claimed it was "rare". Then I went to the bahamas and saw 3 of them in a tidepool together. Rare my ass.

Probably a solid three inches I imagine. The store I got it at is notorious for two things though 1) rare specimens 2) horrible conditions, so one has to be careful, but I could not pass this one up. I got to bag it myself even - that's how they do it - even with poisonous fishes! They had sharks, many eel species (including greens and giants), football sized angler, jellyfish, and just plain odd things I had never seen before.
But, yes mantis shrimp are circumtropical and not rare. Some species are however, and some don't ship well at all - so getting a nice specimen is not always easy I don't think.
btw, I also got a 2.5-3" clown tang for $9, and it died the next day (this morning), so I have mixed feeling with that store (hate, guilt, and a twisted fascination with their rare stuff).:notsure: So I go in there about once a year (this was my third trip in three years and it's only 50 min. away...)
INNSMOUTH - what happed to your peacock, did it die or did you just get rid of it?

I had to get rid of it. Was starting to get jiggy on the glass. Couldn't have 92 gallons of water on the floor. :)

that was the most pricey - $29. Granted I have limited experience with them so far, but I am smitten and learning quickly, so far the ternatensis has the least fear and widest range of behaviors.
I can't believe I have four now, but I have never been happier with my tanks. After the first, I wanted a big one, so I found the ternatensis, then when it got id'd as a female (apparently harder to find than males) I was motivated to find a male, but I ended up with a whole different species! Then Sunday I saw the Peacock out of the blue! Couldn't say no, so now I have quite a collection...

My friend is ordering 2 mantis shrimp for me. And they're going in my 72g reef. I don't care what anyone says about how much of a plague mantis shrimps are, i had a 3-4" mantis shrimp in my reef before and he didn't harm anything and he came into contact with my fish centimeters away. My theory is, as long as you keep feeding them they won't go for anything else, has worked fopr me so far
