new to forum. bougt the power strip that doesnot come with the moonlight it was like $104.00 anyway trying to make a moolight I thought about this.
Those led neon light strips that they sell at autozone and walmart for the guys who want to attach them to their cars and make the undercarridge glow. Thought i could splice one into an old 6v-12v adaptor. cover my splices with the liquid tape and attach the made moonlight into the strip that does not have one.
Thoughts, Comments, Will it work

target sells LED christmas lights. they come is strings of 60. ive got a lightbar that im working on right now. here are some pics so far...

as of right now ive got 57 of the 60 LEDs on the lightbar. however im going to have to lower the amount of light as this is slightly brighter that i was shooting for. ill probably just cover half of the lightbar with some black tape. im also going to enclose this somehow to keep the salt air from corroding the lights.

Looks good! Is it just attatched to a stick? I would cut a section out of the middle of a PVC Pipe and form acrylic over the opening.

looks good....I went to auto zone and purchased the 6" neon light its about as round as a bic ink pen. I have started the re-wiring and cannot wait to post the results i tried it on my small desk hex and it looks good.

that is exactly what i was thinking about doing. yes, what i did was i took a piece of 2x4 and ripped off a section about 1" thick. i drilled about 60 or so holes for me to push the LEDs into. not very tough to do, only took about an hour. im still trying to decide exactly what im going to do. however i was thinking about doing exactly what you had said about cutting a section out of PVC and using some clear acrylic as a cover. not sure how easy it would be to do but im still thinking about my options. i had also thought about using clear square acrylic...

That is brilliant! I saw those at target too. Im going to do that for sure. Ill bet 60 LED lights do a much better job than the moon lights that come with the light fictures. The ones that come with the light fictures only have 1-4 which prob doesnt light up the tank the same.
One question though. How many watts are those lights puttin out. IF there is like 60 watts, that may not be good because to the fish it will feel like the sun is still out, wont it?

i just made a set of my own using 2 6inch led bars that i had left ova from my car. i wired them to an old phone charger that supported DC and my tank looks really good at night and my fish seem to love it..when i get a chance i will put some picks up of it. The light is not bright at all just enough to give a nice lunar effect.
