Ok...I have decided to buy a 75g tank since that is all my budget will allow.....I was wondering if this setup would work....Let me know what you guys think......Also if anything u would suggest adding or subtracting...(would i be able to add anything else?)
Lots of Live Rock
Pair of Percula Clowns
Royal Gramma
Purple Firefish
Cleaner Wrasse
Cleaner Shrimp
Lot of Snails and Blue leg crabs
and
Powder Blue Tang, Powder Brown (white cheek), or Achilles Tang

I currently have in my 75g...
A LOT of rock (250#)
4 percs
2 firefish
and a Naso tang in QT
lots of hermits
lots of snails
So you can get an idea, I added a pic. I REALLY wanted the PBT but due to its suceptability to ich, I chose Naso...and he got ich. Due to the Naso's ability to grow, he will probably outgrow the 75g pretty quick. So, with the PBT (and especially the PBrownT), be prepared for ich !!! Just know it going in.

Ok thanks alot...Yes I have read that tangs are magnets for disease and I guess I'm willing to take the risk...I thought that a few cleaner shrimp and the cleaner wrasse would help keep that under control........your post has made me very apprehensive/worried...

Should'nt be a problem,But I would'nt add anymore fish.Then what you have listed.
O yea go with the powder blue.
Just make sure to quartine the tang for at least three weeks. And have it on garlic to help prevent any ick out break.
Good luck.

Mine slick ? Not really sure. That is REALLY weird. You can see the clowns in this pic and the purple firefish are hiding. I'll get pics of them tomorrow.

I have to disagree with keeping the PBT in a a QT. Unless your QT is an established at least 75gallon tank. Initially the PBT will be very hard to get to eat. It will continuously pick at the rocks, pods and other normal food critters that live on the rock. Keep the algae clip full at all times and change daily. Also keep offering a variety of foods to get them started. Once they start eating it is smooth sailing. I initially put a UV on the tank to run for the PBT. Have never had an ick out break. The key to keeping these fish is to get past the first week of stress, let them settle in and start eating. You cannot do that in a QT tank. There just is not enough live food in the tank to marginally sustain them until the get established and ready to feed.
I have had my PBT for 6 months. and a leopard wrasse if that tells you anything. Now he is a real pig and a bully to any new fish. Beware, they are very agressive to new tank mates.

a small tang might do well in a tank that size. As for an achilles tang be super careful, they are one of the most disease prone surgeonfish.

Well I have known for quite a while that larger fish, already established in the tank will pick on smaller fish that are introduced after it....I was planning on running my tank for a few months and adding everything except for the Powder Blue Tang, saving that for last so that it won't have to deal with new additions and so that the reef will be in prestine shape on its arrival......Because I had planned on adding it last, I was definitely going to quarantine it in my 25g for a length of time so that it wouldn't infect all of my livestock...But now I'm hearing not to quarantine it....What should I do?

It has been my experience that if you can get any tang through the first batch of Ick, you will be home free. I have 3 tangs. yellow eye, hippo, yellow. They all have gone through an Ick stage and survived, never to get ick again. On the other hand I had a powder blue that just didn't make it through.
The only fish in my tank that got ick were the tangs. I have them in with a blue masked angel and a maroon clown along with shrimp and starfish. The only fish that got Ick were tangs!

Not quit sure what sweet jesus is smoking but who have to be crazy not to qt a tang.I lost a couple tangs from not putting them though the qt process.

I agree. Why put your whole tank at risk. A QT will have no more stress than your show tank, and it will keep all your other fish safe. ???
Sorry sweetjesus, I hate to disagree with my fellow Minnesotan, but this is just my 2 cents.

Hey Spankr, I am in Elk River also. What LFS do you use? I currently go to Something Fishy in Richfield (I think they are great), but wanted to know if there is any one closer that is good.

I love Something's Fishy. Great place to go if you live in the Metro.

I go to Something Fishy, and World of Fish.
Something Fishy's prices are somewhat ok? A World of Fish to me is pretty outrageous. I must say that both of these stores have quality fish and are for the most part disease free. But, you pay top dollar for quality fish.
Forest Lake Pets have some good prices for fish, and I think they have the best prices on tanks.
Fish and Friends in Brooklyn Park (85th and 252) has some good deals on fish. They don't have a big selection and you risk an Ick outbreak if you don't quarantine. The Owner is an ass#@*!.
Premier pets in Ramsey has alot of SW tanks, but only half are up and running, quality is poor, and the prices aren't that great. Out of the 3 fish I bought there, only one is still alive. I wouldn't buy a tank there either. I had big hopes for this store being it was so close, but I am disappointed. They do get some exotic fish in there though. The problem is that they don't live. They had a cuddle fish a while ago and have an octopus right now.
*****, I wouldn't even bother.
I have a couple other stores I stop by when I have a chance, but don't frequent them.

Spankr,
Thanks. I have come to pretty much the same conclusions as you regarding the local fish stores. I too, had high hopes for Premier Pets, but am dissappointed every time I go in there - sick looking fish, etc. I guess I will just stick with driving 45 minutes to Something Fishy.
