Experts - please help.
my tank - 8 tangs.
powder brown tang - newest one came in via mail order about 12 days. when it first came in, it chases its tail (circling round and round). After 2 days, it would hit the live rocks or side of tanks when swimming. Of all the fishes (14) in the tank, I have not seen it consumed any food. But seemed healthy. Just now noticed very fine white spots on the body. The Yellow-eye tang also has the same spots on the tail, but very little. The yellow-eye tang is a pig. He just ate.
What to do next? Thanks

Welcome to the world of Hypo!!!
this is why you are supposed to QT all fish. You have bought a one way ticket to the Disease forum with a consultation with Sepultan (sp...?) and Beth!

the other 3 fishes - tangs - that came in from the same source as the powder-brown are doing well. No spots!

adding something to kill an invert is going to do its job: kill inverts including possibly your corals and your snails, crabs, etc.
there is no quick cure to Ich.

Cheak water quality, meds wont work if its poor. I suggest setting up a quarentine tank and moving the fish there for a month. This way you can use stronger meds to help save the fish and let the parasite known as ick to die out in the display tank. I hope that helps.

seriously, post some pics in the disease forum and ask for sep/beth's input. meds won't kill ich, and you cannot hypo your DT with the corals in it. You're going to have to set up multiple QT's for all your fish, i don't envy you this one.

Add fresh garlic juice to your food and it will help your fish fight off the ich. The garlic will enhibate the ich's ability to attach itself to the fish causing it to fall to the bottom and die faster. Good luck.

Garlic does no such thing. falling off even if it did do that doesn't cause ich to die. Ich ALWAYs falls off anyway, its part of its life cycle and when it multiplies. it is also the only time it can be effectively treated. Unfortunately there are no reliable long term reef safe treatments. You could give Ruby Reef's kick ich a try. supposedly it works much better than the other reef safe treatments as are their claims of effectiveness

First let me say I am worried that you have 8 tangs, what size of tank do you have, 8 tangs should be kept in a tank at least 300 gallons...I am also worrked that you didn't know what ick was...but enough about that....you need to pick up some fresh ginger....grate some in with your frozen food as it unthaws, you're fish will be better in hours and you don't have to add chemicals to your tank.
