PowderBlue Tang

I haven't been in here in a while, but here's an update. My 30 cube reef tamk is doing great, with 16 diferent corals in it, along with 11 fishies.
Here's my question: Anyone have a Powder-Blue? Do you also have any other Tang species with him? I have one, and he is doing great, but I'd love to put either a Clown Tang or a Yellow in with him. I've been given conflicting info on putting them together.
Any ideas?
freak out.

In a large enough tank they would do fine together as they are from diferent species. But in a 30 gallon with 11 other fish,it would be MURDER. I highly suggest that you cut down on the population you already have. I speak from experience here,TOO MANY FISH will cause problems down the road.Plus having all those corals in a tank with that many fish is also asking for trouble. Most corals can NOT tollerate the high nitrates and POOR water quality I'm sure you have.

I have a 45 gallon reef, besides my powder blue I have a yellow tang both fish are medium sized and I haven't had any problems. At one time I also had a chocolate tang in with them, all was fine during daylight hours but the fighting began at lights out. Had to get rid of that one.

My bad, Salty. It's a 30" cube (115 Gal), not 30 Gal. Otherwise you would have been dead-on. I probably wouldn't even keep a Tang in a 30 Gal....they need too much space.
How does that change your answer?
My other fish(10, sorry, I miscounted earlier):
Flame Hawk, 2 Percs, 2 Cardinals, Bicolor Dottyback, Bicolor Blennie, Dusky Jawfish, Yellow-headed Sifter Gobie. Plus, pretty good cleaner crew.

I have a purple tang in with my powder blue and they get along fine now. Any tang will fight when a new tang is put in and a powder blue can be very aggressive when it wants to. I dont think I would chance puting another tang in at this point even at 115 your tank is pretty crowded if everything is fine dont push it. If you do decide to get a tang avoid the clown tang they are notoriuosly hard to keep and can be very aggressive. If your fish start fighting and come down with a severe case of ick you will be sorry.

That changes evrything I said erlierto,YES,It will probably work.I would still be conserned about that many fish in with that many corals. They usually don't go together.Corals require near to perfect water.A fish only tank usually has high(over 40ppm)nitrates.

Salty-
I have about 150 lbs LR, and lots of circulation.....my Nitrates never get over 10 ppm. The corals (even the gonipora) are thriving. Most of my fish are small, and they have plenty of individual space. I'm not too worried about overcrowding. I'm more corcerned with which Tang I could most safely match up with my P.B.
I hear what jimi's sayin'. I also have heard that Clown Tangs can be tough to keep. But isn't that the same thing they say about P.B.s?

Yep, powder blues can be tough but mixing two sensetive but aggressive tangs is asking for trouble. There really is not any "SAFE" tang to put in there now. A purple or yellow would be your best bet.

I have a Kole Tang in with my Yellow and have very good success with that. I would go with a Kole Tang with the same size as your PB.....
