Has anyone ever used the Power Brite LEDs by Current USA, i was thinking of purchasing them to upgrade my lighting, i wouldnt have to change my hood either becuase they are 12'' and thats the lighting size on top of the hood so i could just place it over that... but i would like input on if anyone knows anything about them ... below i have pasted the SPECS ..
Replicating the dynamic natural qualities of sun and moon lighting, the PowerBrite lighting system combines the life-sustaining wavelengths of light with the efficiency of LED technology into one sleek lighting system. The excellent depth penetration adds the natural shimmering effect and rippling glow found on natural coral reefs while producing virtually no heat and consuming little electricity. The PowerBrite LED system is available as a powered lighting system or linking module in 10,000k Daylight, 460nm Actinic, or a 10,000k/Actinic combination.
* Adds the shimmering effect of metal halides without the heat build-up
* Efficient high power LED's last up to 50,000 hours
* Linkable connection for up to two PowerBrite LED Modules
* Promotes strong and healthy coral, invertebrate and plant growth
* Each PowerBrite measures 12.25"L x 1.6"W x .75"H.
An easy to install lighting solution that adds vibrancy and movement to any aquarium, each lighting system and linking module includes a complete installation kit that allows for multiple configurations on the tank or inside existing canopies & hoods. All systems feature high-output Power LED lamps with polished conical reflectors designed for maximum output and intensity.
Model Description
1643 12" PowerBrite Lighting System 2-10K/2-460nm actinic LED's
1644 12" PowerBrite Linking Module* 2-10K/2-460nm actinic LED's
1645 12" PowerBrite Lighting System 4-10K LED's
1646 12" PowerBrite Linking Module* 4-10K LED's
1647 12" PowerBrite Lighting System 4-460nm actinic LED's
1648 12" PowerBrite Linking Module* 4-460nm actinic LED's
NOTE: PowerBrite Linking Modules require PowerBrite Lighting System for use
PowerBrite LED Systems use high intensity 1 watt (50-60 lumens/watt) Power LED's that provide a point source light, producing the "shimmering" effect often found from using high intensity lighting systems such as metal halides. PowerBrite LED's are designed to enhance existing lighting systems such as fluorescent and compact fluorescent systems, as well as act as a stand alone light in very small aquariums, refugiums - as well as powerful nocturnal moon lights. It is recommended to use one PowerBrite LED for every 20" of aquarium tank length.

This type of unit isn't meant to replace lighting like PC, VHO, T5, or halide. These are more or less just for looks, not function.
If you want to go LED as your main lighting look into the PFO Solaris or Galileo, or the Aquailluminations units. The LEDs used in these fixtures are different than the ones in the Current unit.

I would really wait on LED systems for a year or two. The price will come down, lots more companies will offer them, and the technology is only going to improve as time goes on.

I'm planning a 10 gal nano reef and I'm wondering if six of these lights would be both functionally and cost effective in the long run. According to factory specs (yeah, right!) six units would put out 1200+ lumens. The Current website says the lights can be used alone in very small tanks and I think the long-term costs would be lower than the alternative, given bulb replacements every 6 to 12 months. I'm also considering the Aqualight Deluxe Series 96 watt 50/50 Quad.
At 50-60 lumens per 1W LED these are still not the expensive, high output Luxor offerings, but the 5W LEDs were still running over $30 each, last I checked. I suspect the Aqualight puts out well over 1200 lumens.
Any more thoughts? Thanks for any feedback or first hand reports.
