is it possible for my 6 month old 260watt odyssea powercompact light be brighter than my new but used 560watt outer orbit with 16 month old bulbs in it?order replacement bulbs from reefopticfo mh and pet mountain for my powercompacts due in this week

i think its because the bulbs are so old. and brighter doesn't mean better. Power Compacts do not give any where near as much of a PAR rating that metal halide does.

flourescents look brighter because of the uniform coverage and lack of momentary shadows and dark spots from the shimmering. you could have 3yr old 250w current bulbs and they will still run circles around a 260w pc fixture dispite what your eyes are telling you.

Very well wrote! Also consider that a lower K rated bulb 6500-10,000 will appear much brighter than a higher K bulb like a 14,000 or 20,000.

I agree here. I went from reg. flour. to PC and now M/H and they do look a little dimmer but the color is so much nicer. And the bottom of the tank is also light up.

Exactly. They appear dimmer to our human eyes but not the corals. (considering it is a quality bulb with a good par rating)

all i know i may reef-optic 150wattx2 14k plus my 130wattx2 pc got her today and go in tomorrow cant wait to see how it looks
