Power Compacts lighting requirements

How many watts of lighting do I need for a 55 or 125 gallon tank? I'm trying to be proactive as I will probably start with a smaller tank and then move to a larger tank. Unless just going to a larger tank to begin with makes more sense. I won't be having any hard corals and such, but what is the recommended watts per gallon?
