Power head flow

75g tank already have a Rio 3100 for the sump, thats rated at 900gph but at the top I think it's more like 600gph into the sump, that turns the water over 8 times an hour. I was planning on adding 2 maxi-jet 1200's at 295gph. So that gives me a total of 1200gph flow for a turnover of 18 times an hour. Is this enough or should I go for more, don't want to blast the fish out of the water, but whats ideal?

"Its enough for fowlr, but for a reef you will want 25x or more! HTH"
Totally wrong statement. 10X turnover is the minimum you should have. If your going SPS you should be closer to 30X. For softies I would stay lower. Your 18 sounds fine to me.

FOWLR? I'd say its your call. I'd use enough to keep algae from forming (based off of what lights you are running, probably shouldn't be a problem unless you went more than normal flourescent for looks) and enough to keep fish junk from settling for your own convienence.

decided to skip the Maxi-Jets and opted for the Rio Seio 820's, figured that with those two heads I will be at like 28x turnover

I have 2 of them in my 40 and they are great, because they have such a wide spray output. The only thing i dont like about them is they are to big in size for my tank, but in your 75 they will probly looked good.

that high of a turnover in such a small tank will cut down on the amount of places you can put corals. Unless you are using wavemaking devices that is to much linear flow. A lot reefers dont spend the money on their devices. Do some research on old threads and you what i have said has been stated before.

All you have to do is play with the placement of the powerheads and you will have areas of low, medium and high waterflow. I have corals that need to be in each area and never had any problems.
