yeah. i have one now so i'll be prepared for it next time. any suggestions on the algae?? maybe because of the temp spike?

im sure the algae issue is from low flow/pumps being off. im thinking itll work itself out, but a few snails might speed up the process.

It sounds like hair algae. It is easy to get rid of. Do you have snails?

yeah I have a lot of snails.
Let them clean it up. The algae bloom was likely from the increased nutrients and increased temp without the tank going. What kind of snails do you have?

i will speak from experience that 24 hours with no water movement can kill your fish.
mine was out of power for only 14 hours, and i lost most of my fish, and inverts.
if the room is 80, the tank is only going to get 80.

Totally agree with your mathmatical formula. But if it's 90 outside, the room ain't gonna be 80. Maybe 100, which = tank water 100, which = dead fish.

this is true but i dont have to worry about that cause my tank is in the basement and thats underground so it always cool down there

sorry for the loss of your coral beauty....but im sure you are still feeling pretty lucky compared to what it could have been. I had never heard of a battery powered air pump, and will have to get one soon....sorry for you misfortune, but good thing for boards like this. In cases of serious crisis they can really be a life saver.
That whole "hair algae is easy to get rid of, just throw some snails in there...." believe me, I know a lot of people who would argue with that. But if you didnt have a hair algae problem before the loss of power, you shouldnt have one after. It will all eventually return to equilibrium. But as stated a couple snails are never a bad idea.
