is there anything i can do to keep oxygen in the water??? how long will everything be safe???

Open up the lid for the gas to escape, you can go for an hour or so, watch the temp. if you get a spike ice in a bag works. I live in Ca so that is my issue, but I run a ubs on my close loop system and the chiller only my 45g sump will shut off in a black out and I have 3 hours of run time. I lost my whole 150g in my office when GE shut the block down due to a dui vs: the pole. I hope i'm not late with this. Also some pumps can be powered by a battery so you may want to look in to that. In Ca we have rolling black outs in the summer so we need to have a back up ready at all times.

To heat the water you can use the hot pockets from any sports store that you use when you ski, Also you can cover the glass with towels because glass is at keeping heat in. If it is glass?? Put the pockets in the chamber or on a bag.

It is a bad time of day to be out of electricity, If a walmart close by is open, then run up there and pick up a power inverter, and an extention cord it you need one. A power inverter plugs into your cars cigarette lighter, and you can run the cord to your tank, you could plobly plug in your heater and an air pump. This will work as long as you keep your vehicle running. I don't know wattages, maybe someone can help you with that. I know that is what alot of us had to do in December and last Summer when we had those outages in St. Louis. Also try to put a blanket around the tank to hold heat in.

thanks for the suggestion... i have one of those power inverters and my computer seems to pull too much power so i dont think i could use a 50' cord (which is what i would need)...
electric is now back on, was out for about 10hrs.. all the corals are small but they are slowly opening... all the fish are good... total of 12 deg drop (80--> 68 deg F) last night so i am worried about he corals... my GSP is only about half open but my brain is more open now than it has ever been... im optomistic that everything is going to pull through...

I've had to deal with two prolonged power outages during my saltwater career, both of them four days long during extremely cold winters. Remember that everything in your tank was shipped to somewhere in a plastic bag in a cardboard box, so forget about moving the water around or exchanging gas; everything will be fine. Your major concern is keeping heat in the tank, and that's best accomplished by wrapping the tank in towels or blankets, and certainly not by opening the lid.

Glad the lights are back on. You should be ok as some times water temps will often change but you never know. Good luck to you.
