Power Sweeps and opinions

I have two new powersweep power heads and was wondering the experiences other members have had with them.
I'm finding them to jam about every 3 hrs
Anyone have any experiences with them?

Yeah, I had one once. They stop sweeping all the time. I threw it out and bought 3 Pennguin 550's that I'm very happy with. Not one lick of trouble in over 8 months (knock on wood).

I've never seen one that is still sweeping after a two months. There is an attachment, you can get that turns a stationary powerhead into a sweeper. But its bulky and needs to be mounted on the top of the tank, has a pole with cage for the regular powerhead to hold it and spin it. Really looks to intrusive in the tank. Some of the books by John Tulluck have pictures of it, doesn't say who makes it.

Hi, My powersweep stopped rotating as well, just another power head and bulky too. I also use it to mix salt :). I tell you i got one of those pricey sea-swirls and it rocks...

I looked at the powersweeps, but based on what this formum has said about them, I went with JBJ powerheads. My LFS recommended them, and so far they are excellent. Thanks to everyone for the advice on what NOT to go with!!

I bought 5... 4 months ago before I found this site. Looked like a great concept. So far (knock on wood) no problems. I did hear they redesigned them by replacing the pin in them that the gear meshes with to a stainless steel rather than plastic. We'll see over time as to how this pans out. But, I'm sure as debris sticks to it I'll have problems down the road. They don't have a great track record.

The one I had always stuck. It first started after a couple of weeks. I was quite disappointed. Perhaps the makers know about this and will improve the design..... thats a big PERHAPS though...

I used a Huffy tool on mine (household hammer), it now works great since i threw the remaining smithereens into the trash and went with a mag12 + spraybar setup.
