Powerhead advice

I hate powerheads (the ugly look of them), but I am thinking I need more flow. In between 2 options, I plan to do 2 powerheads no matter what...
Option 1 Tunze Turbelle Stream Pump 6060...everyone says Tunze is the best, I am worried how I will mount them as I don't have an open top and the picture of the included pieces is throwing me off.

Options 2 Hydor Koralia 4 Circulation Pump/Powerhead UL 1200 gph, not as good a reputation, but they have magnets that make them easy to mount anywhere.
Both have similar flow, and wattage. Don't mind spending the extra money for the Tunze, but don't want to have issues putting them where I want.
Tank is FOWLR
8x2x2 240 gallon with just a Mag 18 powering the returns btw.
Any thoughts?

The Vortechs are really cool, and would be perfect....However, I have dropped a lot of money on the tank this year, my wife might beat me if I drop around a grand on 2 of those right now, maybe next year
....Thats why I was thinking the Hydro Korelia, they seem pretty good, and I could get 2 for under $100 and they would get me by until I am ready for an upgrade.

I've heard good things about the Koralias, but they are quite big and can be obtrusive in a tank. I believe the Koralia 4's are about the size of a pop can. If the look of powerheads bother you already, I really think the Koralias are going to be an eyesore for you.
An alternative would be the Tunze Turbelle NanoStream 6045. It is rated at 1189gph, and they are magnet mounted. I have two modded 6025's, and I absolutely love them. Mine are only about the size of a baseball. They push a lot of water, but it is a nice, gentle flow. The 6045 will run you about $90 each.

Good to know....I saw these but was a bit leary as the customer reviews (on a rival site) were a bit negative on them, sounds like you like yours

I ordered 2, I am fine with the suction cups so I will try it without the magnet for now, great deal for under $80
Thanks for the suggestion

I have two of the modded maxijets, love the powerhead, hate the suction cups. They fall off about once a month and cause a sand storm. I am buy 4 lrg magnets and glueing them on.

GR! I have a vortech and would never get one again. They need new wetsides every now and then and they are noisy. You can play with them to make it quieter but not much

Actually the hang on tank rails that come with work pretty good .I haven't had one dislodge yet.

Bit late in this thread, but just my thoughts, you really can't have too much flow in a fowlr. I mean, these are the same fish that are prowling the reefs 24/7, so why should their flow be lower then in a reef tank? All of my aggressive fish, my old Tusk, my old Blue Jaw, my current Naso and Blueface love swimming in front of my Wave2k and catching a wave. You also have a bit more comfort room. All the extra flow helps the O2 and pH stay level, helps control nuisance algae, and if you ever have to have the return pump off line for whatever reason, you can 'take your time' as you still have plenty of circulation in the tank. I understand limits, something like 90x would be really excessive, and also depending on your live stock. When Puffers are in the reefs, if the water gets crazy, they usually just hit the rocks to find a calm hiding spot. So really high flow wouldn't work well with them. But something along the 30x-65x (the gph of every water moving display in your display divided by your tank size) seems optimal IMO, even my puffers.
As far 2 SureFlo Maxi-Jets, really interested in see how they do for you, as I need 2 more powerheads for the ends of my 125.

Yes, I absolutely love mine and would never go with anything else -- except maybe a Vortech, but I'd have to win the lotto first. lol.
If I remember right, the negative reviews were about the mounting brackets breaking. They are little "C" shaped pieces of plastic that snap into the magnet, and people were having trouble with them. From what I heard, Tunze stood behind them and sent out replacement brackets. They have also changed them, so they shouldn't be a problem on newer ones.
There is also a very easy mod that can be done to increase the flow on the NanoStream 6025 (which is the smaller size of Tunze). It has been reported that it increases the flow to upwards of 1000gph. I can't verify the actual number, but mine have been modded and really push a lot of water.

A good point AK, that was a big reason I never had powerheads in my previous tank as I was told Edgar (my Porky Puffer) preferred calmish water, and none of my other fish seemed to mind. Now that I have decided no puffer in this tank, its time to get some flow.
This will take me from roughly 6 X's turnover per hour to roughly 23 times per hour (if they do as they say), I will go from there.
They already have shipped from Cali, I expect they may be here tomorrow

This is all good advice. I have two modded tunze 6025s (love them) on one side of my tank which Tunze has replaced both of the C-clamps. Tunze has the best customer service by far.
I also have a Sure Flow 1600 modded MJ1200 opposite the 6025s, but I bought it before they had the larger prop, so I have been working with the company (algae free) to get the larger prop. I also bought the sure grip magnets by the same company for my Sure Flow 1600 kit and it is amazing. My tank is an SPS dominated tank, but the flow from these Phs are all amazing and I didnt have to spend on ton of money on them.
