How many gallons is your sump,tank? And how many feet of head pressure will you have?Its probably not going to be enough to push water up and back into your tank and if it can ,probably not at a sufficient rate of flow..

Its a 10gal refugium for a 75gal tank a nd about 4 feet return line.

If it matches how much you're draining into the sump, but I don't think that's the case.
I use a MJ to fill up the tank after I do a waterchange and it barely has enough power to get the water all the way back up.
