Powerhead fire

I had a powerhead burn up and catch fire in the tank on Saturday. Did water change and have been running chemi-sorb since. Everything looks OK except the my Orange Monti Cap and my green/purple Monti Cap. They seem to have bleeched out a lot since the problem. Do you think it was the higher temp or possibly the electric shock. Any input would be great. My digita looks like it may have had a grawth spirt because of the problem. It grows fast but I have never notice growth from morning to night.

Yes it was a Rio 800, but I already owned them and planned on using them untill they got noisy. I have also had good luck with the little Rio powerheads in the past. THe Impeler was not jammed so I don't know what caused it. I do have some polyp extension but they are very pale today. No lighter than yesterday though.

Fisherman, If you look I did say I have had pretty good luck with the little ones. I have had a 2100 and a 2500 a few years ago and with in months they stopped working and made a lot of noise. But these little 800's have been going strong for a while know and like I said it gave me no advance warning.

It caught fire under water. There were flashes of flame and spark coming out of the pump along with smoke rising out of the water. I was not doing a water change. Does anyone have any input on the coral question.

Honestly, I can't think of much more you can do besides run carbon, chemipure, and do a water change. Sounds like your SPS's just reacted differently to the leached chemicals.
