AHEM*
As being the elder in the hobby, I'll pitch in my .02 cents.
Can you keep a snowflake in a 10 gal? Sure.. 20gal? Sure.. Can you keep a snowflake in 30? Of course you can! Heck, fit it in a 5 gallon if you must!
Will it be happy? Will it thrive? Will it live as long as it should? Absolutely not.. You have to understand certain things in the hobby Kyle.. You can't approach this hobby, and life in general, with an attitude "who cares".. The fact of the matter is that putting a snowflake in such a small environment is very stressful and downright cruel.
Taken from ***********.com (for lack of a better resource). The minimum tank size for a Snowflake Eel is 50 gallons.. Remember the key word here, minimum. The eel can reach to 2'. A 55gal is roughly 4 feet long. Meaning the eel would have twice the amount of it's body length to swim freely..
*Don't put it in anything smaller than a 55g. Even if you have plans on adding it to a larger tank later, chances are you may never come around to doing it in time, and the eel croaks..
You must also realize the bare minimums in the hobby.. Just because some shmo establishes a minimum tank size doesn't mean that you should put it in the smallest environment..
Remember this in the hobby, keeping something alive is only a fraction of the battle. Having something thrive is what the saltwater hobby is about, and usually neglected for. Jimmy has kept his aquarium for a while now.. It's coming along very nicely.. He used to "tank-hop" frequently, possibly due to the fact that he wasn't ready on his decision in tank size.. I'm fond of Jim's work with his tank because he focuses his attention on one tank.. I have kept my 29 for 3 years now, and it's going strong.. My tank is nice because I focus on creating an ideal environment for the right species, to make them thrive and live for years to come so that I may feel a sense of accomplishment...
Basically, I'm trying to say that you should focus your attention on one tank/project. You are still very new to the hobby, and focusing attention on one thing would be the wisest decision...
If you can't care for something properly, don't take care of anything at all...
I expect a good response.. Again, none of this "who cares" attitude answers anything.. That's the lamest, lowest postition you can put yourself in..
