Powerhead Question

Most people here recommend 20-30x flow for a reef aquarium. Most seem to recommend Maxi Jet. Their biggest only puts out 295 gph. The MJ mod has been body slammed by some for noise and vibration...so, what are y'all doing? You're not putting 10 PHs around the aquarium are you?

your return pump adds to your water flow so if your not running a refugium you can have a high flow return that if directed properly can reflect off the glass and create some good cross currents with your powerheads. if you are running a refugium a closed loop sytem can be used to get a large flow without a large amount of powerheads

i have had great luck with zoomed roating but i am one of the few they are over a year old and covered with coraline the only problem i have is that after a water change i sometime have to plug and unplug them a couple time so they blow all the air out and then start rotating again

Roger that. I just read a user review on a similar setup. He complained of a continuous sand cloud and too much flow. Have you had any problems? Are you using the controller to tune down the Streams or are they running at max.?

Yes if you have them pointed the wrong way they have crazy power!--If I point them at the front glass they will blow the sand all out of the front.--You can lower the power on them and you can also use the controller to lower it.--I have my 2 running across the tank pointed at each other.--The controller turns the right side on and goes from 30% power to 100% like 6 times then it turns on the left side for the same set up.--At night it runs at 30% right then left.--My tank is 60x24x24.--
