Powerhead questions

I have heard that Rio powerheads run hot and cause the temp. to rise in the water. What are your experiences with them? Do you like that brand?
What do you all think of the Hagen/ Aquaclear powerheads?

Can't comment on the Rios, but I'm very happy with my Hagans. I've got about 5 of them between my 2 tanks and they are great. Very quiet, don't seem to generate any heat, and they hold up well. I've only ever had 1 problem with them. I use one in a rubbermaid tub to mix up fresh saltwater. I use a airline with the powerhead to airiate the water. Sometimes I can't get the powerhead to pull in the air from the airline... but I'm not sure why. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the powerhead or something else (i.e. me).
I recommend them.
FWIW... I've also heard very good things abou maxi-jet powerheads. I'm thinking about trying one to see what all the talk is about.

Definately go with a maxi jet. They are the most convenient because they come with the most components. Whatever brand you chose though you will see an increase in temperature because of more current. With more current comes higher temperature. All you have to do though is turn the heater down.

I havent heard of a power head that wasnt fully submersible. It does make it more convenient if they are fully submersible.

the maxi's are fully submersible and also can run dry with very little side effects. for those o oyu ut there that don't know RIO's are the worst pump made IMO. they die quite often and when they do they foul the water. i have had 3 , 2 returns and 1 skimmer pump, and they all have died. some after only a year. not good.
