Is it better to get a larger powerhead than what its rated for? I need one for a 55 Gal. what size should I get? and how many for each? Is Maxi-Jet any good?

if u want a reef i would get like 2 sieo 820's or 1100's

I have a 55-gallon too!You should get TWO Maxi-Jets rated for your size tank.

I say mod you a couple of Maxi-Jet 1200s. Makes them run about 2400 gph each with the high flow kit. In all you will have about $100 in the setup and lots of flow!!!

Ok, not sure if this will work or maybe I am too crazy to do this, but I am thinking about using my 900gph submergible pump and set it right in the mid of a 55g tank and branch the flow out to each end of the tank and run small branches off the branches. That will sure flow the tank like real ocean waves!! not sure how much heat that pump will release.

How do you mod a powerhead to make it run at 8x its normal output? Don't the 1200s pump 295 gph?

Here it is! They have gotten great reviews and for a reefer on a budget they are great. I actually don't have one, but have seen them running and being built and they are shweeet!
