Well this is only , I say only MY opinion but I have found that the maxi jets are pretty much immortal.
I thought the "sweeping" powerhead idea was kick@ss so had to try one out but alas, was way too labor intensive for my liking. I had to take the thing apart almost twice a week to clean it as the most minute particle of anything would jam the thing up... this even using the pre-filter sponge!
Oh and also, the maxi jets outlasted(still going) any other powerhead I tried on a wave timer. Always restart without a hitch...

The zoomeds IME are not worth it as they quickly (read hours sometimes) stop rotating.
I prefer to use maxi jets which are great for wavemakers. I also use the dreaded rios which outnumber mj's prob at least 3 to 1 in my shop and I still 3 mj's crap out in one week on me. Even still, I believe they are great powerheads.

I had the same experience as Glazer, my rotating powerhead quickly became a stationary one, and after a few tries to get it moving again I have given up and left it. It still pumps water, but its bigger then it needs to be for a power head of its size, may pull it altogether soon.
