I had a powerhead wear out in my 55. I need to buy a new one. Out of curiosity, how many powerheads and what flowrate are needed for a 55 gallon tank?
Thanks

in a 55, i would go with 3 smaller ones, better circulation and not too powerful at any one point
i like aquaclears and maxi jets, i dont buy anything else anymore :D
for flow rate, i woudl reccommend about 10x your gallns per hour of turn over(or all combined 550gph), this combining all powerheads, filters and skimmers, you can even go stronger,i have over 1400 gph in my 75, god circulation is a vital key in this hobby

I just recently bought a PS-4 powerhead that has a "rotating head" and pumps 270 gph. VERY NICE! and inexpensive. Paid less than $30 for them. I didn't not get it from this source, but here's a link that shows you a picture and very similar cost.
<a href="http://www.aquariumpros.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=APG&Product_Code=ZMDPS40&Category_Code=PHop" target="_blank">http://www.aquariumpros.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=APG&Product_Code=ZMDPS40&Category_Code=PHop</a>
I have a 75 gal - and have 2 - 802 powerheads (400 gph each) blowing across the back. And 2 of these PS-4's blowing across the front frome each side - at different levels.
I am VERY happy w/these PS-4's. Can't say enough good about em.

joerdie...I think that if it is a product that swf.com doesn't carry it should be okay to give a link.
Also, I think the number and GPH of powerheads depends on what sort of corals you are keeping. A bubble coral or open brain is not going to need as much current as an acropora or stylophora.

Joerdie,
I apologize if stepped on this site - i wouldn't be here if i didnt find it well stocked with experienced hobbyiest.
The url of the powerhead i made was meant so someone could "see" what I was referring to. I did NOT purchase mine from that site either.
In addition, and more importantly, i first SEARCHED this site to find it here on this site - and could NOT. Because this site does not have it listed, nor any graphical pic of one - does it then harm to find one elsewhere?
Again, was not meant to be an 'advertisement' of any person carrying the product - only of the product itself.
