Hi,
I have a 125G tank and was wondering how many powerheads is recommended. Will soon be my reef tank. Is (2) maxi-jets 1200's be good enough? or do i need more.
thanks in advance

In a reef i'd say no. You have more length than anything. I'd add 2 more to that list and set them up on timers.

whoa.... that seems a lot..... I have dual overflow box, one on each side of the tank. Was thinking about putting two powerheads in the center of the tank, each facing opposite directions. Is that ideal?
thanks for your response..

I would also go with 4 but I would go with 900s instead of 1200s. One of the sharks, sorry I can't give proper credit, pointed out the fact that the 1200s don't turn that much more water than the 900s, but they take a lot more watts to run.
MP900 8.5watts 230gph
MP1200 20watts 295gph

Think of the corner overflows as your surface skimmer while the power heads will move the rest of the water in the tank. SInce you have a or will have a reef you're also going to have alot of rock in there interrupting that water flow. Try putting one in each corner and the othe rtwo in the middle You could point the corner ones to the front of the glass thile the middle two point towards a respective corner. THus creating two circles in your tank. I think that would work nicely and if you put two of them on timers for the night you can slow things down while everyone sleeps :)
