Powerout System

Many have asked about what to do if the power goes out. My wife set me up.....because she probably did not want to see me writhe in pain if the power goes out. This has been running a power head and filter for 6 hrs. so far. I am testing how long I have. It is on my QT tank. Walmart for the 12V jump starter ~$40 and Radio shack for the 300W converter ~$60. It has two outlets and plugs via lighter to the battery. I feel much better now with winter coming. It will be reserved for my big tank if needed.

I was looking at a similar idea for my tank. Only I was going to use a backup power supply for a home PC. If you've ever been to Sam's (Wal-Mart bulk outlet) in the computer supplies they have them. You can get them in 2 different sizes with 3 to 6 outputs. They automatically kick on when the power fails. I thought of using the smaller one and just plug either 2 power head into it or maybe the main pump. I figured the power heads would be sufficient and would draw a lot less wattage than the main pump. With the minimal wattage that 2 power head require the power supply should last some time. I don't know if it would last 6 hours like the setup above but it would come on if I wasn't at home. Any thoughts/suggestions?

It is great to be prepared!
Don't forget about temperature though...especially if this is for winter related power outages.
I have a 350 UPS hooked up to filter and heater for my 5 and 3 gallon setup. I also have a battery powered airstone set just incase.
