Premium Live Rock??

[i am here]

What live rock is historically lighter in weight than others and as beneficial to the tank environment and “premium”, what ever sets that parameter. Sorry, I am a newbie but what sets “premium” live rock apart from “average joe” live rock other than its marketing price(Where’s the line drawn?)? I am looking for a lighter Live Rock that is beneficial to the tank, while taking some of the stress off of the structure of the aquarium. Thanks for your input.

kaelini, fiji, and lalo are very porous rock. and are probably the 3 best rock choices available

you want to look for the rock thats most covered with color.. and also what devilboy said

here is a some pics of the uncured tonga branch and some fiji for my new cube as you can see in some spots some coralline growth. even tho it is uncured it may die off turn white but it will return with color....

itll take a while for the coraline to die off.. its the other critters that "die off" during shipping.. may cause spikes in your water

yea i know... thats ok, its the uncured rock that i am using to start my cycle, but after reading up on it, if i keep up with frequent w/c's i may be able to keep alot of the critters, i know i already seen some types of polyps on one tonga branch, and on a piece of fiji it may look like a tiny favites coral.

you could seed other base rocks with your rock now.. with the right heater, cal levels, light
live rock makes great natural biological filteration.

lol... i dont need anymore live rock in there trust me i already have 23# and it is only a 12g nano.... so i am set with the rock... and i do have cheapo sand in there and with the curing of the rock, it should turn my sand into live sand.... :joy:
