President's Speech

I really thought he was going to offer some new big plan. After all the drama over scheduling he doesn't even have the plan finished yet? Could be wrong but I think this hurt him politically. He talks about bipartisanship and then talks crap about the other side during the speech and keeps up with the class warfare nonsense?

He is already and has been politically doomed in my eyes. I can't even stand to hear him speak.

Who's going to pay for this? More debt, yet again.
Guess you didn't listen to the speech. The plan will not add one more dollar to the deficit. He plans on asking Congress to add more spending cuts to the already $1.5 trillion over the next 10 years to pay for it. He's also looking at modifying Medicare in some shape or form. Payroll tax breaks for small businesses. Giving $4,000 tax credit to any business that hires a military veteran. Extend the middle class tax breaks, including providing a $1,500 tax credit to all Americans next year. He mirrored several of Romeny's little proposals he pushed out the other day. The only thing that will hold it back is him wanting to raise corporate and wealthy tax rates. Modify our current income tax rates so that every taxpayer pays the same amount. The plan would make last year's cut in the individual Social Security tax rate, from 6.2 percent to 4.2 percent, permanent
Of course the Republicans will do everything they can to railroad it. Their only mission in life is to keep our economy in the dumps, and keep unemployment high so that Obama will be unelectable next year. This statement pretty much summed it up:
"Members of Congress, it is time for us to meet our responsibilities," he said, complaining that "already, we're seeing the same old press releases and tweets flying back and forth."
"But know this," he added: "The next election is 14 months away. And the people who sent us here — the people who hired us to work for them — they don't have the luxury of waiting 14 months."

OH PA-LEEZE!!!
"I'm going to pay for it" equals "I don't have a clue how to pay for it, that's congress' job".
"We need to fix medicare because it's going broke, But I am increasing and extending the cut in taxes that pays for it" HELLO?
Military vet hiring credit. This is the most laughable of all. Do you SERIOUSLY think anyone is going to be looking to get out with this economy now that the wars are winding down? This ain't like Korea or Vietnam where people were drafted and discharged from the service when they get home. Most of the people in the military are there because they want to be. Unless the government starts forcing people out, which might come this is meaningless except for being a nice gesture.
The credit for hiring people off unemployment makes sense. Still not a magic bullet that's going to move the needle.
Closing corporate loopholes? Depends. One person's loophole is anothers legitimate business expense. Increasing taxes on corporations takes money out of the pockets of consumers when the increased cost are passed along. Isn't the point of the payroll tax cut to put more money in the hands of the consumer?
Hiring more teachers..... How is this going to spur job growth? I am not aware of a single school that has closed for lack of enough teachers. So there are no bus drivers, custodians or lunch ladies that will be hired as a result of this. It isn't worth adding to the debt right now. We can't risk another credit downgrade.
Infrastructure projects. Again done right makes sense. Repairing existing infrastructure is going to have to be done at some point and once funded can happen really fast. They should stipulate this is only for repair and maintenance, no new projects. We already learned that lesson with the stimulus.

We did listen - only OUR eyes don't glaze over, leggs get tingly when this empty suit reads the teleprompter...You can attempt to blame the repubs all you want, but americans are waking up to the FACT that BHO has spent almost 10 trillion in 3 years, 4t of which is NEW DEBT.
"Of course the Republicans will do everything they can to railroad it. Their only mission in life is to keep our economy in the dumps, and keep unemployment high so that Obama will be unelectable next year. "
Wrong again, thank keynesian economics theory for that - and your messiah's upcomming loss of the white house. To show just how FAR this moron is "out of his league" he shouted "pass the plan" 17 times in his 36 minute verbal vomit assault on common sense, but he HAS no
written plan for congress to pass, and doesn't plan to release one for at least a week & a half - AND the "debt panel" gets to figure out how to pay for his 1/2 trillion MORE of pissing money away. I'm sure he can squeeze in 10 or so rounds of golf between now and then.
Those nasty wascally republicans - can I get you some cheese to go with that whine? I guess you forgot about the first 2 years of the anointed ones presidency, when he had SUPERMAJORITIES in BOTH houses of congress. Or are you unclear what a supermajority is?
SO - blame Bush. Blame Republicans. Blame Tea Party. Blame Cheney. Blame. Blame. Bla. Bla. Bla.
It's highly likely in 14 months, and another trillion or 2 of deficit spending, voters ARE gonna blame someone and CORECTLY
, it's gonna be the POTUS who cannot speak without his TOTUS (telepromtper of the U.S.)
Do you even have a fish tank? or do you just spew left wing tard rhetoric in the "aquarium" section of the site?

Come to Texas and see how many unemployed teachers we have right now because Perry whacked our state educational budget to the point that school's have no funding to pay the substitute teachers, much less the full-time one's.
He stated he'd ask for more spending cuts over the $1.5 trillion they've already agreed upon to fund the endeavor. Of course no one believes it, what else is new.
I work around military personnel all day. The majority of them have no intention of making the military their lifelong career. They're in for the free education and GI Bills to complete their college degrees.

That does seem very short sighted. Did he actually reduce the budget or did he just reduce the amount of the typical increase. Sounds like a stupid question but politicians around here mix the two concepts.

Oh yes, this will not cost us a new ¢ in taxes...just like Obamacare is going to save $2-$10 trillion over 10 years by cutting fraud and pooling to save $. Does even the brain-dead left even believe this guy anymore? I defended Barry for 2 years as another well meaning liberal. He isn't. He really is out to destroy our economy and make us just another nation, rather than the city on the hill. This incompetent bafoon needs to go. He was given 2 years with a total majority just like him and they have spent us into oblivion. We have been damaged, possibly, beyond repair. The next step flailing leftists take is to gut our military. That's something we cannot afford. Get him gone already-at least stop him from decimating the military to try to cover up his massive debt.

There are a lot more unemployed people than just teachers, why bring them back now? We have got to be debt conscious in the short term so it isn't worth it right now.
I am not aware of a single individual in the whole wide country who was drafted to go to war currently. All them guys in there for the GI bill or whatever aren't going anywhere until their contracts are up and even then with unemployment over 9, 10, 18% or whatever it is hardly any of them will leave. But let's assume there is a whole bunch who want to go to college and finish their education. That still doesn't matter because it would be years before they would be looking to enter the job market. Some might take part time jobs, WHICH DON'T QUALIFY for the tax credit nor should they.
One other thing that should be done (which wont for the same reason 0bama wants to rehire teachers) is Davis Bacon should be suspended.

If you want to replace the current system with something "better" you have to drag down what is there to the point people will support the change. It isn't as far fetched as Mantis makes it sound. Don't know if that's what 0bama really wants to do but some of his close associates do actively promote changing the capitalist system.

Debates can be productive if you can find a way to state you opinion without insulting over a third of the population.
I didn't realize all of the left was brain-dead, but it is your assumption not my insinuation. I was specifically talking about the far left that is so far left that there is no other world view to them-not all of the left. That is why I used the term "brain-dead" left-not to describe all the left, but rather to ask if even the extreme left is still on board with this guy.

p.s. There is also the brain-dead right. That's the group that believes all business is good business and only big business is what matters in the country. I also call them graduates of the Limbaugh Institute of Conservative Studies.

He has indebted us literally beyond comprehension. His solution is to indebt us further, even after years of seeing what damage his reckless spending has done. So either a) He is really stupid or insane-which I doubt. b) He and his cronies want to hurt our country further. Now can you please tell me how I make that seem "far fetched"?
