pretty dumb question

Why in the world does saltwater in my tank bother me? My skin gets so itchy and irritated! But if I go in the ocean it doesn't.. So it's not really a saltwater fish tank question but every time I clean my fish tank I figure someone out to know..

The same things happens to me. I am right there with you. I don't know why but it is really itchy. Get some good lotion.

It's synthetic (fake) salt. It's not the same salt as the ocean.

Just wash your hands and arms really well after working on your tank and use a lotion afterward and you should be fine.

Do you have the same itchiness if you put your arm in fresh mixed water prior to adding it to the tank?
It may be what you are keeping in your tank, and not the saltwater.

It could be because you have some tiny scratches on your arm. Salt does burn on cuts lol
