I am not sure about the price on aquacultured live rock. But I got 50 lbs of Premium Marshall Island live rock for 3.25 a pound. The live rock here at saltwater.com is cheaper than 6.00. So I would say its not but like I said I am not sure if aquacultured lr carries a larger price. IMO. :cool:

There is one store in my area that sells the aquacultured live rock. It looks really good, lot of life on it, but it is 7.49 a pound. It is also alot more dense than the Fiji rock that I have been buying at 4.69 lb. So from what I have seen 6.00 a pound probably isn't that bad for the aquacultured rock.

It all depends on the density of the rock, alot of aqua cultured rock is extra heavy making your deal not such a deal.

Is the live rock already cured? I have seen some big price diferences for cured, versus uncured live rock.... it takes a lot of tank space to cure a whole batch of rock, and if your lfs has already cured it you might be paying for the tank rental space to get it already cured for you.
Prices where I live vary from 4.99 a pound to 7.99 a pound, depending on the lfs and the type of rock.

the best i can say is shop around, and check out prices in your area, you can buy it more cheaply here, but MO is always (almost) cheaper on line, than locallly, but to answer your Q', i pay 7 to 10,99 here for local fish store prices

My lfs sells the rock for 11.99 a #. I really thought that was a rip off (even though I bought 25#'s of it)LOL I use those pieces as show pieces since they really are gorgeous. I bought fiji lr from here...swf.com and use that as my base and building rock. The good stuff goes on top or somewhere that it will show up well. Also found another place that has tons of differnt types and shapes of rock, really cool. I'm not sure I can give you the name of the place...can I sharks???

shop around & ask around...pricing at LFS will usually depend on LFS & your location; most areas it's cheaper to order online; if lucky you can get 45-50 LBS fiji for $200 or less w/ S&H;
used to be you could find 45 lbs for $99 + S&H;
LFS allows YOU to decide there & then though whether you buy or not & EXACTLY what you do buy;sometimes if you speak w/ the LFS manager/owner they will cut you a deal if you buy certain amount;some online retailers will let you request certan sizes or shapes over the phone; best deal seen currently is $139-169 DELIVERED fiji rock WITH handpicked by phone;
don't really take much stock in this "cured/uncured" thing;simply think that just another way for retailers to get their $$$;
usually go by how it looks & most important, how it smells;you can usally tell by the smell how "cured" it really is

mh51072,
email me at freckles@fishesrus.com .... I know of an on-line store that has some reallly good prices on liverock right now!

i'm fron NY and have looked for l/r at numerous places. it always seems to be $6 a lb for the normal l/r and have seen it up to $10 a pound for the "special" l/r (whatever that means)

watch the MO, when i got mine, it was 100 for 45 lbs, but S&H killed that, it was over 50$ for that
alone
i have done both, i am just saying to do the math BEFORE you order, call them, if necessary because lr normally dse not fall into their normal shipping policies, it is heavy and needs to be expressed mailed

It is about $6 # here, and it has a bunch of neat stuff. When I got mine home, polyps, crabs, snails, all types of stuff came out to say Hi.
I have been hunting around for some more, but am noticing allot of 'dull' looking lr lately.

actually $150 w/ S&H is pretty good depending;LR does not NEED to be expressed shipped; just another way to get $$$$ out of peops; LR can tolerate some extrems for periods of time; 1 online retailer lets you choose shipping method; course if you forgo the FED EX next day 2nd day thing; you lose the guarantee; my area means maybe 1 day lost, but $30 savings using ground instead
