Priming Canister Filter

Well after three months of prep work my tank finally got wet on February 19th. Now after adding 45 pounds of aragonite we are trying to turn on our Eheim 2028 canister filter. We keep pushing the priming disk on the top of the filter; we even tried to syphon the water to get going to no avail. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Assuming you've checked all of the connections, are you pushing the primer all the way down, slowly, and completely filling the filter before pluging it in?

You sure the pump's working?
If so, is the intake sitting at the bottom of the tank? I keep mine right below the surface of the water. Makes for easier priming and I don't worry about flooding my room if the canister were to ever leak.

You said you started a syphon, did it fill the canister with water? If it did your pump may not be running also make sure the caps are tight on the tops of the water intake tube and the return tube.

I have a canister filter, You have to push the primer button quickly like pumping it, shouldn't take more than 3 or 4 times and you will hear it fill, then plug it in.
I used to think I had to do it slow and all the way down, it took awhile before I figured it out.
