prizms work fine for smaller tanks, but IMO, they are way over-rated on size, skimmers although expensive, are the one item that you definitely get what you pay for and you want a good one, if you can afford it, i would get a better skimmer, do you have a sump??, if so and you don't need a hang on, look into building your own, there is lots of info out there on building one and much cheaper than 200$, but if you are limeited to a hang on, this may not be an option 4u

Some people don't use skimmers and some people like to over skim, it also depends on your bio load. If you do regular water changes and don't overfeed or overload that should be fine. If you don't ever do water changes or you overfeed or overstock then this skimmer won't help much.

i'd hate to say this and sound like advice, but
to answer your q' yes an emporer will be fine, i had one on my 75, i now use it as a circulation only device(no filters), and have no skimmer, but as i said, i don't find it good advice for newcomers, tanks can be used with neither but skimmers are the BEST tool you can buy for a new tank, if you got a god bio filter(dsb with adequate lr) and good circulation, it can be done without them

I have the prizm on a smaller tank than your's but thats is why I do not recamend it.
The damn thing is very loud.
Do not buy it.
We have to cover it with a towel to keep down the noise. It is very distracting.

If it isn't skimming enough it is leaking pure water all over the floor from over skimming.
