I came home today to find my Emperor dead .... his tail was gone . It had to be my Humu trigger ? What have you guys seen ? is what everyone talks about with triggers . I have Tangs also but I don't think they could have done this .

well if the trigger is the only aggressive fish in the tank im guessing its him. or it could of died and then then the other fish were picking at it. if you have crabs it could of been them too

What other fish are in the tank? My Lil' Hummu is an Angel, but there are some that are real terrors! I saw one in my LFS that had an appetite for damselfish.

I have Naso tangs , clarkii clowns , blue damsels, green chromis . humu can eat anything I feed him . I don't feed him live fish AT ALL .

It was probably your humu. I had one for almost 2 years that was the most peaceful fish. Then one day he just snapped and took out a lion that was about 5 times his size and then went after my striped burrfish, which was also about 4 or 5 times his size. I ended up having to give him away.

How big are the 2 fish? Every Emporer I owned was the "King" of the tank. Was there any signs of the Emporer being sick?

I plan on giving away my niger once he gets to a certain size. That's to bad about your emperor. I lost a wrasse and 3 other little fish but I am not sure exactly who did it.

huma triggers are very well known for this behavior .I had one for a while 2-3 inches he was very well bahaved in my tank for a long time but once i read of the habits of turning aggressive overnite and wiping out fully stocked tanks i returned mine to the LFS.this is very common with triggers.even my niger was agressive towards my large vol lion to the point my lion got him instead(stung him)

Mayby your angel just died and the damsels and clown ate the tail. ive seen them pick at the dead. I dont see why a healthy angel wouldnt live with an eaten tail for a few days. I saw fish with no fins stay alive for days

All Trigger are a hit and miss fish, I have read stories about the Humu, Niger & Pinktails having a bad attitude with tank mates.
I have had my pinktail a few years now with no trouble & it was another trigger stung by a lion, it did live though. My Pinktail struggled for days before it started to come back around. I think we spoke about this before unleashed.........

my niger was retarted from day one lol.he broke out of his bag within 1 min of acclimation time darted out and went streight for the lion ,the lion sucked him up and promptly spat him back out.he left the lion alone for some time but began pestering him and nipping at his fins the lion got tired of it and got him good.no more triggers at all for me

nope i just missed it i fed the fish walked away then returned within3 to fed the larger fish the trigger was on the bottom of the tank laying on his side when i returned but he was eating just before that.the tip of the lions fins had been exposed so Im almost posetive it was the lion.i filled a small rubber made tup with tank water and placed the trigger in that with a very small powerhead(i removed because my lunear wrasse started to pick at him and he couldnt get away)he died withing the next 10 min .his lips were the last things to move

Thats kind of sad. Yeah it was definately the lion. Dumb youth (referring to the trigger).
