Progress on my 180

Thought I would give this a bump to see if anyone had some more ideas of additions.
I've got a large ritteri anenome on hold at the LFS and should pick it up next week. So that's one addition. I think I might try Dogstar's route with a couple more tangs!! Agggh don't shoot me now.

Anyway, any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Tank looks good so far. I would move the brain onto the sandbed though, he'll be much happier. I also agree that you should add a fuge, I have a wet/dry and I added a small pump which takes water into my fuge and then a gravity returns it to my wet/dry next to my return pump that take it back to the display, works great. I also have a pair of true percs and a GS Maroon in my tank, the maroon always harrasses the others and I will eventually get rid of him.
Hey Dogstar what part of S Florida are you in?

Ive seen that pic of Dogstar's reef before a didnt have a chance to comment on it. It is one of the best pics Ive seen so far, granted I'm partial to yellow tangs, but I have to say those are very very healthy fish. Nice work!

Always risky to add new tangs to a tank after other tangs are established in there. Not saying it cant be done just got to know the tricks and sometimes they dont work either.
Hows the leathers doing now ?
Come on guys, Thanks but this is obsOCHIN's thread. Hes got an awsome tank too. And Greg, Im in the Oakland Park area.

Thanks for the advice Dogstar. I've somewhat decided to reconsider the tangs. I do believe I will go with a flameback angel, royal gramma, a couple cleaner shrimp, and maybe a wrasse. Any other suggestions would be great.
Oh just took some more photos tonight. The leather is looking much better.

Here is one of the two percs. Their home isn't as happy as it used to be. I still haven't figured out the toadstool leather yet. He was thriving in my other tank but seems really unhappy in the 180. All water parameters are good infact the nitrates are lower than they have ever been (no more CC).:jumping:

One more for tonight. A Closeup of the brain. I'm looking forward to adding the Ritteri Anenome later this week.

I've read that in a refugium you can grow some AWSOME tang food that will also help filter your water. Gracilaria?
Nice tank, Sir.

Farmboy- Thanks for the info, I am seriously considering adding a fuge to the system and will definitely include some of those plants. Oh and thanks for the compliments.
Here is a great one I got of the sailfin.

I think you're just showing off. . .
. . .but if you got it - flaunt it!
Great pics. Cool setup. I know a lot of folks here are all about the coral, and I really like them too. BUT- I would miss seeing the fishes in my tank. I like the different little critters too.
AWSOME!!

If you are dead set on another pair of clowns you might try a couple sebaes or clarks. They are much more peaceful than the tomatos or maroons. I have a pair of percs and a pair of sebaes in my 180 and they get along fine. But down the road you never know what might happen.
I've got a gold stripe maroon in my 16g by himself and I think he is the coolest of all my fish but he would destroy my 180 if I put him in there. He is way too aggressive.
Also, I have heard that a ritteri is one of the harder anemones to keep. But they really look cool so good luck.
As for the refugium, I agree that it is a good idea. Do a search on here for refugium and you will find TOOOOOONS of suggestions.
Excellent start. Tank really looks good.

I love my refugium - it is only a 10g below my 30g display, but it makes my system about 1000 times more stable. Mine overflows from the display into a small vertical divider filled with bioballs only to break up the flow, then into the large chamber with some "myricle mud" with macros planted in it, then the water overflows into my return pump chamber.
So far the Myricle Mud has worked great, even though it has the word Myricle in it
.
Anyways, are you looking for some fast growing corals that you can frag and trade in by chance? I bought some candy canes that had a slow start, but now they are growing like crazy and are very healthy and loook great. Also, I got a green rasta leather that looks great in the front top center of my tank and it has grown like crazy, i'm going to split it this weekend and trade it and probably some red mushrooms or green star polyps in for a chuck of a hammer or similar.

Gold Strip- Thanks for the heads up on the seabae clowns. I hadn't even thought about that type. As far as the ritteri goes, I've done a lot of research on them and do understand that they are one of the most difficult anenomes, however, After seeing this one at the LFS, I couldn't resist. I believe I have the right lighting and flow so I will see how it goes.
Pyro- Sounds like a great idea for the refugium. I just got to find some time to sit down and plan it out. I've got a spare 10g that I used as my Q tank awhile ago, and I have plenty of room behind the tank. All I need now is some time. As far as corals go, I think I'm looking to find some different colors. I seem to have a lot of greens and browns in my tank and would like to get something with different colors. As far as fragging and trading, I wouldn't know how to start. I have only been keeping corals for about a year now.
Thanks all for the good words on the tank!

That's a beautiful set up you have. I have a 55 I'm converting into a reef and it's slow going. Maybe one day I can upgrade to a 120 so I can have tangs, I love those fish, so much personality!!! Thanks for sharing the pics!!!

I would try and use a larger tank. 10g is too small, I would get as large of a tank as you can fit in your stand - the larger the better.
As far as fragging goes, I've had my tank up for about 4-5 months, and it's my first saltwater tank. I've already fragged a couple of my corals a couple times successfully, don't think I've had any frags die yet other than maybe a mushroom piece that floated off into who knows where.
It's pretty simple, mushrooms you just cut off the rock and net to another and wait for them to attach. Polyps you just remove some polyps and stick them to another rock. I'm nto sure about SPS and some LPS... buuut, when I got my candy coral I fragged it before I put it in my tank. I didn't mean too, but I dropped it and it broke in too - now both halves are thriving and much bigger each than the original was overall.
Just search for fragging - you'll find some stuff. It's a great way to get cheap corals - just bring a frag to a LFS and swap it for another one  .
Your' leathers might help to even out the colors once they cheer up. How long have they been in your tank?
