lr is mostly figi and florida and there is a small amount of base rock in there but not much.
the zos are lovely, when i bought them they were not open so i didnt know what color they were and the lfs told me they were all brown but they have green and a redish color in person.
thank you andrew i love my manny hes great and i love it when he extends his dorsal spine its cool to see him flutter around the tank. its even cooler to watch him buzz around when i drop omega 1 flakes in there, he likes the orange colored ones more than the green flakes.

Hi.
I noticed Manny looks really healthily. I'm assuming he's in a 29 gallon. It doesn't look like you have that much live rock. What do you feed him? I only ask because I have had such a hard time with my little Scooter. I have had him for about 7 months. I didn't research him before I got him (I know, big mistake) the LFS (*****, now I know why everyone talks so bad about them.) told me he didn't need live rock and would be fine with any food.
I put him in my tank with two clowns and a yellow tang. When I feed them they eat like they haven't ate in years. I do feed them twice a day they are very well fed, the thing is my Mandarin is not fast as the others and the food is gone before he even gets a chance to see it.
Needless to say I saw him about two months ago and he was skin and bones, I do have live rock, it's just not been established quite yet.
I moved him downstairs to the 18 gallon tank, which contains only LR and snails. The LR in that tank has only been in there about 5 months so there's not too much live food for him. I have tried many different foods. The only thing I can get him to eat is frozen bloodworms and only a certain brand at that.
He tries other food, but then spits the food out. He doesn't seem to be gaining much weight with the bloodworms, I don't think the are very nutritious.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you might have, or even the kind of food and brand your feeding Manny.
Thanks for your time.

madysmom - do you like your Florida Liverock? I bought the 45-50 lbs of Figi from this site and was pleased with it but I was wanting to add some more liverock and I thought it might be good to have something different. Did you have any unwanted critters from it? Did you buy it from here or LFS? Sorry so many questions.

rachel, at first my manny looked like yours, and i tried everything, the only thing was is that he was eating pods and pods and i would watch him eat them constantly because i had so many in my tank i couldnt see through the glass but after about 3 months of him being in my 29 i decided to try some different things to fatten him up. first i set up a brine hatchery and fed my tank live brine every day for 2 weeks not a whole lot but enough to watch him get a few bites, but also enough that the others in the tank wouldnt steal it from him ( then the left overs i would freeze and save for later) and i still try to feed live brine once a month or so as a treat. then i started noticing that every other night when i fed the tank omega one (flakes) he would grab the flakes and spit them out to make them smaller and then grab it back up when it was broken into smaller peices, and thats when he really started gaining weight. then lately i bought some mysis shrimp (its frozen) and he will eat that too. his favorite is the red orange colored flakes in the omega one. strange but true. i really dont have much lr and i too was misinformed when i bought my little guy. but i think he is really worth the time i put into making sure he eats.
as for the lr i think i like my florida rock a little better because it has better coraline on it and i have found hitch hiker zos on the one small piece that i bought.

the omega one is a regular flake container with a blue top and it says OMEGA ONE natural protein formula
saltwater tropical flakes (MARINE FLAKES)
then i feed O.S.I brand Spirulina: Aquarium Flake Food
the krill i feed the tank is SAN FRANSICO BAY BRAND Sally's Krill
( never really see manny snag this )
the Mysis shrimp are SAN FRANSICO BAY BRAND Sally's mysis shrimp

and the brine eggs i buy are also SAN FRANSICO BAY BRAND
they are usually found with the flake food.
good luck and i hope this helps
