I've been looking in on your posts for the past few weeks just to see the progress. Read about the wavebox and been shopping around for one to go in my 300 gal. As far as wave speed goes I've heard that the resonance on a 96" tank is just about perfect for them. Just a couple of questions...
How long is your tank ?
How high are the crests of your waves?
Do they cause any problems with your overflow boxes not working properly?
Just wondered what you think of them as far as random water movement goes. Been looking at a 4 way or 8 way alternating current system but will have to do some major work to get the system going, but the wavebox seems like a very simple instal.
Thanks for the opinons!
From other tanks I've seen running the Wavebox, 84"+ tanks have a nice speed. In the video I posted above, some of the corals can be seen swaying in the wave. The video isn't of high quality, but it gives a general idea. I'll try to get some higher quality videos of some areas of the tank that really show how the wave moves in my tank.
My tank isn't quite 96"; it's 92"L x 30"W x 24"H.
The wave crests are about 3/4" high. I have corner overflow boxes which scrape some of the height off of the waves, but the rest of the tank moves well.
The overflow boxes handle the waves well. The level inside the boxes fluctuates about 1/2" with each wave, but that's not enough to cause any problems with the drains.
Personally, I feel that the Wavebox is about the best method for creating random water movement on the market. There is not a single deadspot to be found in my tank with the Wavebox running. Granted, there are only two directions the water flows with a Wavebox, but if you have enough flow in addition to the Wavebox, those streams of water will crash against the ebbs and flows of the waves and create all sorts of random water movements.
