In my experience it all depends if it is photosynthetic or not as to whether it lives a long worry-free life or not.

It also depends on coloration and region of the coloration. For instance the purple gonioporas from the indo may be 5 times more hardy then the regular green ones (this is just an example - I do not know if it is true). I don't know which color is what off the top of my head, but the information is pretty easy to find. There was a gentleman I met once that had a Red Goniopora from the Indo-Pacific that was still alive after 2 and half years.

I like the purple ones but not sure what to do about light. All I have found on the net is they need medium light but not to sure what that is.Would PC light be good or should I wait to get stronger light.

they will not live in new tanks. that said, they don't seem to do well in the dirty tanks in which i've seen them tried, even though they come from dirty water naturally.
if pc light is enough or not may depend on the tank depth. what size tank, and how many watts of pc?

It's a 29 gallon tank with 65 watt Pc.After X-mas I will get the 65 up and running it will have 720 watts on it and that light setup has 2-250mh on it but I was told that they don't do to good under mh light. The tank has been up since Feb.and has been stable all this time.Right now just getting all my info together then after I feel that I can keep it alive and happy only then will I buy one.The tank is about 20 inches deep with way to much live rock.
