How can i speed up the coraline growth in my tank???
is there any way to control the colors that grow???
i am doing an experiment where i took some frag plugs and LRR and put those, tank water, and some purple up in a urine sample cup and am floating it in my tank.
Does purple up create coraline or does it just help the existing coraline grow...do i need to add some coraline chips to my cup to make this experiment work???

You have to introduce coraline into the tank or you will never have it. Most of the time it comes with LR or Frags you put in the tank so no big deal. I believe different types of lighting help get different colors. One last thing you really dont want to speed it up, it gets very annoying scraping it off.

I invested in a $20 bottle of purple up. it doses calcium and iodine. 2 things that feed coraline. Also powerful lights. I just got the purple up last week, so i dont know how well it works. but the LFS guy recommended it for speeding up he process.
Another technique Ive heard was hold a piece of LR in front of your power heads, then scrape off coraline with a razor blade. I haven't done it but I hear it gives you can see new growth all over the tank within a few weeks.

like you said in your last post..... just scrape your existing corraline off with a razor blade and break it up into as many tiny pieces as possible... this will help immensly in its propogation

as i always do, i would recommend the purple up (be careful in watching calcium levels) and the scraping method. doing both will really help it take off.

If you are going to dose Iodine use an Iodine product containing iodide. This would be safer than diluting an Iodine used for dipping.
