I have have friend who has a nice green Candy Cain coral in her tank and it it doing really well, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to propagate this guy. Do I just break of one of the branches and if so, how long does it need to be and whats the best way to break it? Also, if this is a bad idea i would like to know that to so I don't kill my friends coral, thank for any help.

You can just take some pliers, and break it as close to the base as possible. I have a piece that had been broken off and is doing great.

I'd only break them apart at the hard calcified base. They should easily "snap" apart, like breaking a wishbone.

i meant at the base of the hard skeleton not the polyp sorry. and you can use a hacksaw

Thanks for all the quick replies guys. But after I posted I went and looked at the piece and I put some pressure on one of the branches, to test it's strenght, and it snapped off at the base. so fortunetly it worked out for me. I was looking at another candy cane she had and it had a much thicker skeleton, and i think the hack saw idea would work for that one.

I think you would be surprised...even the thicker based ones are still pretty easy to snap with your hands. It's probably the easiest and cleanest way to do it.
