Propagating green star polyps

I have a green star polyp coral that covers a 5" dia piece of lr. I'm thinking that in about another month I'll be able to get a cutting off it. (it's doubled in size in the last 2 months). I've read where people cut peices off and ca them to another rock. My question is, how do you get the mat loose from the original rock? Is this all that is involved in this surgery? How big of a peice do you cut loose?
BTW: My red slime algae has about disappeared.(did four H2O changes over a months time [100% total], slime got real bad, thought I was gonna have to add meds, but it just went away).
Thanx for everyones help

green stars are really easy to propogate. you have a couple things you can do here.
1) just reach in and rip a piece off the main coral and glue it to another rock(i use zap gel to glue my cuttings).
2) very simply place a small piece of rock next to the main colony and just let it spread, then move the small rock where ever you want.
3) my all time favorite, rip a small piece off and use a underwater epoxy and glue it to the glass of the tank. after it spreads for a while, use a razor blade and scrape it off the glass in small pieces. then use the zap gel and glue it to other rocks and let it spread.

I had some new growth on my green star polyps that I recently cut away. I simply got a pair of small sharp scissors and cut off what was hanging and laid it across another rock. No glue or anything. It's growing like crazy and attaching itself. A few days later I got the scissors back out and slowly "tore" the base back like you're pulling a sticker off of something then snipped it off. It is also doing VERY well. Mother and kids are doing great. :)
