I want to trim and propagate some of my pulsing Xenia for a friend of mine... My Xenia is doing really good and is very healthy with about 4 or 5 big stalks (or trunks) and many other thick branches. Can I just cut these smaller branches and super glue them down to reef plugs?
Cut the branches with a razor or simply peel them off the rock.
Rubber band them to plugs or live rock rubble. It will attach within a few days and you'll be able to remove the rubber band.
not to steal the post, but i am wanting to cut mine to get them to spread. i haven't had them in the tank but a few days and they are looking great. my question is, how long do i need to wait before trying to cut them?
don't worry, they will spread on their own after a while. I have traded over 100 stalks of Xenia in the last year, and wish I could trade some more of it....Xenia does better if something is "touching" the main stalk, it will just start another branch onto whatever it's touching. ( be careful, because if it's too close to the glass it really spreads
