Mine striped metallic mushrooms have never split. The large ones are 4 - 5" across.

They jump around and leave little stumps which grow into full shrooms. I have a colonie of about 28 neon green shrooms which was only one mushroom exactly one year ago. I got the single shroom for free from the lfs guy back in Atlanta. If you don't care to wait for this to happen, cut it up in a few pieces and tie them to a rock. Sounds a lot easier than it is. They are slippery little boogers!!

I have ric's but they have not looked great as of yet. It is not the ric's since I know they split pretty regularly on their own.
I was more concered about the striped metallic ones. When I got the rock, there were 9 small ones on the rock, the biggest about 1" across. Now the smallest is about 2" and the biggest if 4" or so, and they are distinctly starting to cover eachother. I thought they would have split by now.
I also thought about fragging them to a new rock myself.
