proper way of filling aquarium with sump?

Hello,
I have an AGA 75G, built in overflow & a Megaflow 3 sump.
Whats the proper way to fill the system to get the water levels in the aquarium and sump to where they need to be? The sump is pre-marked with maximum and minimum water levels. Do I add water to the aquarium without any pumps running till the water level in the sump is at the maximum level?
Thanks

add to the sump and as it pumps into the aquarium just add more until the water starts overflowing back into the sump. now just fill the sump to the max line and you should be good.

fill main display till it is at the point that the overflow starts to overflow.. then fill the sump almost full ( like 2'' or 2.2'' before it overflow and thats all the water you system can handle.. so just plug in the return pump and adjust the pump so that it down pump fster that the overflow so that it dont run dry..
