Protein Skimmer not working?

I got a small protein skimmer for my 29 gallon aquarium but I'm not sure if it is working because the air stone isn't releasing any bubbles. It is humming so I know it is doing something but I'm not sure if something is wrong with it. Its not a huge deal because I have another filter in the tank and there aren't really any corals besides the Xenia but I would like to know what is wrong with the protein skimmer.

If there are no bubbles first check to see if the pump is pushing any air. Then try a new airstone, or new airline.
Just my opinion but I find the small inexpensive airstone driven skimmers to be marginal at best. They will work when operating properly though. Sometimes swapping a woodblock air diffuser for the airstone improved the effectiveness.

Well I finally got around to getting a new airstone and I replaced it. There has been no difference since replaced 5 days ago. When I replaced it I also tested the airline and their was air flow coming out of it so I don't think that is it. Right now I really have no clue whats up with it.
